Rene,

I too live in Belgium and I've been looking at Dell's. I priced a Latitude CPi 300xt (300 PII with 13 inch screen) that I've been thinking of buying. I put in all the options I want (128 meg, 6 gig hard drive, etc.) and I came up with a price of €3314.83 (that is euros in case the symbol doesn't show up on your browser) without VAT and €4014.94 with VAT (VAT is 21% -- everyone on the thread from the States think about that when you complain about state sales tax -- that Dell doesn't charge). The price w/o VAT translated into Dollars (at 1€=$1.16) is $3,845.20. Then I went to Dell's US web site an priced the same machine (except I forgot to add the extra battery and case that came on the Belgian model). I came up with a price of $3,696. That is a little over $150 in difference. The rest of the difference is VAT. I don't think Dell is gouging you, I think the EU government's are. As for them not offering the newest model's -- I have noticed that it takes a few months for a new Intel processor to be offered over here, but normally within a few months the machine is offered.

Best regards,

Harry
