Lewis:

Two comments.

1. My estimate of fair value is $95, using a FY2001 estimate of $2.75.

2. Japan and ROW will recover at some point in next two years, IMO, so that should kick in when current boom in networking/telecom flattens out.

Tough not to take some off the table, but I'm still regretting dropping MSFT a year ago because it hit "fair value". XLNX has not quite the franchise, but close.

Charlie

From Briefing.com:

08:51 ET Altera Corp. (ALTR) 69: Programmable logic chip maker reported Q4 net of $0.45 a share, three cents above the First Call mean, vs yr-ago earnings of $0.38. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter downgrades issue from "strong buy" to "outperform," citing valuation. Firm says prefers Xilinx (XLNX) in sector. ALTR shares indicated 3 3/4 lower this morning.

Awww - so much for that sympathy rise they enjoyed yesterday.

XLNX intra-day high was 87 yesterday - holy crap!

I am not buying any tech stocks, the market
is showing weakness, a correction would
do the sector some good. I might dabble
and buy some PUT options on ALTR or XLNX
or even INTC. Only 1 will do since they
pretty much track each other.
