LEXINGTON, Mass., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Number Nine Visual Technology NINE today announced that momentum continues to grow for the Digital Flat Panel Solution Pack as Dell Computer Corporation DELL , the world's leading direct computer systems company, is now offering the world's first high-resolution digital flat panel system with it's Dell Precision(tm) WorkStation line of computers and as a peripheral monitor product from DellWare(r), Dell's online and print catalogs.
Dell Computer will be the first major computer vendor to offer the multiple award-winning Digital Flat Panel Solution Pack.

Available today from the Dell Precision WorkStation Web site at dell.com, the PC version of the Digital Flat Panel Solution Pack consists of the award-winning Silicon Graphics SGI 1600SW (tm) Digital Flat Panel Monitor and the bundled Number Nine Revolution (r) IV-FP digitally-equipped graphics accelerator outfitted with 32-megabytes of memory.

The Digital Flat Panel Solution Pack is the only high-resolution, digitally driven monitor available today. Number Nine's powerful Revolution IV-FP graphics card with its digital signal output allows PC professionals and enthusiasts running Windows(tm) '9x and NT 4.0 to take advantage of this professional-quality display. The monitor has already won 12 major awards worldwide since its release in September of 1998 including PC Computing's prestigious "MVP Breakthrough Award" (Dec., 1998) and Maximum PC Magazine's "Kick-Ass Product 10 Award" (Jan, 1999).

The bundled Silicon Graphics 1600SW digital flat panel monitor offers a stunning list of features. Its large 17.3-inch SuperWide(tm) display is comparable to a 19-inch CRT monitor and offers the highest resolution of any commercially available LCD display. The 1600SW is capable of displaying 24-bit graphics (16.7 million colors) at resolutions up to 1600 x 1024. At this resolution, graphics is displayed at 110 dots per inch. The smallest text is easily read, even down to 6 points in size. Three full years of data can be viewed in extra wide spreadsheets. The monitor's stunning color saturation and fine dot pitch allows graphics viewing comparable to high-quality photographs. With its wide, HDTV-like aspect ratio (16:10), the 1600SW monitor is the first two-page LCD display on the market. The wide viewable desktop is ideal for viewing two pages of text or two full-size applications in a side-by-side format.

This unique digital display solution is ideal for financial traders, spreadsheet power users, CAD users, web developers, desktop publishers, and 3D modeling professionals. The increased resolution allows users to view more than twice the on-screen data provided by traditional 1024 x 768 LCD or CRT displays. For users who want to take back valuable desktop space, the display will occupy a mere 7.75 inches of the desk (3 inches w/o base). As for being lightweight, the display weighs in at only 16 pounds (8 pounds without base) so moving, lifting or repositioning the monitor is a breeze.

The bundled Revolution IV-FP is equipped with 32-megabytes of graphics memory as a standard feature. This large memory pool allows large 3D textures to be processed and stored in the board's local on-board memory cache. This memory is critical for being able to rotate and manipulate 3D models using OpenGL(r) 3D enabled applications under Windows(tm) NT 4.0, even at the displays native display mode of 1600 x 1024 with 16.7 million colors.

Powerful 2D/3D and video acceleration is provided by Number Nine's forth generation, 128-bit "Ticket To Ride(r) IV" processor which pumps graphics and text through multiple 128-bit graphics engines and data pipelines. Both the "Ticket To Ride IV" processor and the Revolution IV-FP graphics accelerator were re-engineered to provide the first high-resolution direct digital video port for the PC platform. Digital content created in the computer is accelerated by and preserved by the Revolution IV-FP. With its high-speed digital port, a digitally pure video signal is passed along to the all-digital Silicon Graphics 1600SW monitor for a picture perfect image. Jon Phillips, Executive Editor for Maximum PC Magazine said, "This baby (the Digital Flat Panel Solution Pack) is the future of desktop displays, and the best monitor we've ever seen."

"With Dell being a dominant supplier of personal computers to the corporate and government markets, we see the Digital Flat Panel Solution as a natural fit and are very delighted to be working with Dell once again to deliver this state-of-the-art visual experience," said Andrew Najda, CEO and Founder, Number Nine.

"Dell Computer has established itself as a leader in mainstream and corporate PC marketplace through its direct sales model and world-class support. We're excited to be working with Dell to make our world-class digital display technology available to users of Dell's Precision WorkStations," said Dave Orton, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Silicon Graphics.
