J:

TXN bought Butterfly VLSI, an Israeli company, for their expertise (60 people, mostly intellectual property) in short-distance, high frequency networking technology.

More and more people have two or more computers in their homes, necessitating networking and routing capability, particularly for use of an internet connection by more than one PC. Because hard wiring these PCs is beyond most consumers, wireless products could be a big growth market very soon. This is one of the reasons TXN bought Butterfly.

Hope this helps,

Charlie
