Greenspan opposes investing Social Security in stocks

Well, they were asking him about everything. I logged off and watched it. Greenspan was on a committee to save Social Security back in the eighties, it turns out. He did have some interesting observations about Medicare, that if Medicare funded every conceivable medical care for those eligible, it would take about half of GDP, so Congress has to decide who gets what.

He wasn't in favor of government ownership of stock. One point he made was that it wouldn't increase private savings, it would just transfer government investment from bonds to equities. I think he must have pointed out that the market can't continue to go up before I started listening, because he alluded to the fact that he had already said that it probably wouldn't be a better investment.
