or Roosevelt for the US economy's recovery from the Great Depression. The private economy is the real engine of the country.

That sort of flies in the face of every conventional historical account I've ever encountered. Based on the histories I've read, it was government spending (both in terms of the New Deal but especially as a result of WWII) that lifted the U.S. economy out of the Depression. I also believe that in the public imagination, Roosevelt will always be closely identified with the resuscitation of the economy during the 1930s and 1940s.
