Watch the news out of Brazil today. They are attempting again today to do something about their Social Security system which is destroying their economy.

Pay attention, this is the USA 20 years from now.

Tom Brokaws new book and series "The Greatest Generation" has some very interesting personal accounts of that period and its affect on the people that lived though it.

There is a bit of a subtext that I dont agree with though - where the notion of "living through the great depression" somehow spurred the work ethic in these people. I dont quite agree there, I think opportunity spurs the work ethic.
