Wednesday January 20, 8:07 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Ensemble Communications Secures $13 Million for Wireless Broadband Access System Ensemble's Adaptive IP System Recognized as Industry Leading Solution SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1999--Ensemble Communications Inc., the Adaptive Broadband Access Company, today announced the closing of its second round of venture financing in the amount of $13.12 million. The investment group included three new investors--Crescendo Ventures, ADC Telecommunications, and Trinity Ventures--along with the Company's existing investors, Enterprise Partners and Institutional Venture Partners. Ensemble Communications is developing an Adaptive IP point-to-multipoint system for the rapidly expanding Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) markets worldwide including Local Multipoint Distribution Services (LMDS) in the U.S. Optimized for small and medium business customers, Ensemble's system is the first to address simultaneously the many frequency allocations, traffic types, and operating environments in the BWA market in a way that maximizes sellable bandwidth and minimizes operations costs. Services that can be offered include LAN/WAN connectivity, high-speed data and Internet access, telecommuting services, and video conferencing as well as basic telephony and entertainment video. ''This investment confirms the viability of our packet-based solution and the prominent position it has rapidly gained in the market,'' said Rami Hadar, chief executive officer of Ensemble. ''Our breakthrough combination of Adaptive TDD, Adaptive TDMA, and Adaptive Modulation allows carriers to deliver at any given moment the optimal bandwidth and asymmetry needed by each user.'' Hadar continued, ''the result is the ability to oversubscribe equipment and frequency while offering an almost unlimited variety of differentiated broadband services.'' Ensemble Communications Inc. was established in early 1997 in San Diego, and is currently working with OEM partners and other market leaders to sell a complete system solution to BWA service providers. Field trials of Ensemble's Adaptive IP system are being planned with selected service providers later this year.
