Coby, a lot of us seem to look for a short-cut in what will make money. "If it's going to go up, buy it, stupid" type logic. But I think that the principles of value investing or any sort of investing don't necessarily prevail in the short run. So buy CSCO if you want to cheat on your discipline. But discipline over a lifetime of investing will hold you in better stead, imo.

CB: Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question. We just had a bear market that lasted only months. As to why one would want to buy an asset at 50 rather than 90 or 100 appears to be self evident.
