Dad, re > Just because I am paranoid, it doesn't mean they are not out to get me.< You are NOT paranoid because they ARE out to get you. Harry Browne already has a plan to "save" Social Security. Sell enough public land (that currently being leased for grazing, logging, mining, etc...NOT Yellowstone etc.) to buy an annuity for everyone currently receiving benefits and anyone who will start in the next 10 or 15 years. The rest of us would get the full 12+% we pay now to put in self-directed retirement accounts. This would have the added benefit of adding lots of land to the tax base throughout the country. Of course this would cut one of the main sources of demagoguery and vote buying out from under the schmucks in Washington so it will never happen.
