Ed,

It depends on how good your eyes are.

I have excellent eye sight and really like small fonts,detail, and large workspace provided by 1600x1200.

I know folks with less than perfect eyesight who run 21" displays at 800x600. If you don't need high res don't waste money on the more expensive displays because you won't really benefit from it.

For ultra high res:
Viewsonic 21" PT-817
Sony 24" GDM-W900

high res:
Viewsonic PT-813
Viewsonic P-815
Nokia 445 Xplus and Xpro
Iyamma Visiomaster's

Lower res:
Don't have much experience here.

Viewsonic G810 has been highly regarded here and in all the rags but is a venerable design. I imagine it will be replaced soon.
