I believe in equations. I really do. I just can't figure out what number goes on top. After years of graphic arts, and having to "size" photos and artwork to fit into ads and newspaper blocks, I understand percentages pretty well, I can work them out by multiplication or by division, but I need a calculator. And I absolutely cannot, cannot, add or subtract, say, well enough to balance my checkbook, without a calculator. When I am adding a long column of figures, even with a calculator, I have to add them at least twice, to see if I get the same number both times, and if I don't, I keep adding them until I do get the same number twice, then I assume it's right.
