If I remember right, Japan implemented the idea of investing part of their Social Security funds in the stock market too, sometime during the late 1980's. But even that was not enough to sustain the huge run-up in stock prices and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now we have to see if history repeats all over again... in the US this time.

What would be your preferred solution to solving the SS problems and who in the republicans has proposed it (if anybody)? Also can you explain to me how medicare enters into this - when they say SS do they really mean SS + medicare?
