I agree, and I hope they can keep up the pace.

I look at the lack of improvement in INTCs P-PRO(alis P-III), and their alliance with HP as signs that INTC has faltered. My guess, however, is that for pure manufacturing, only IBM may may be competitive with them, and I've seen little evidence that IBM can design competitively in the fast changing world of X86.

On the other hand, I see signs of brilliance in the design execution of AMD.

<AMD is steadily growing a strong customer base, and product line. In the big picture, the short term neuroses of investors and analysts mean pretty close to nothing.>

You're right. It's the pattern of hype, disappoint, then hype again that makes AMD an excellent trading stock. Who do you think drives this short-term neurosis? AMD does with their aggressive roadmaps and their proclamations that the 800-pound gorilla is about to fall.

<AMD is running faster than Intel, and may even catch or surpass them this year in CPU performance.>

Yeah, if AMD doesn't trip over its own shoelaces first. And those shoelaces are still dangling, which is why even Craig Barrett is betting that AMD will have execution problems with K7.
