Interesting article as it may indicate another market for Li-poly batteries. I am wondering what Delphi is up to these days with their Li-poly battery?

Emerging Technology Trend Signals Changes in
Power Supply Industry

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1999--Over the next three years, a growing
number of power supply vendors will attempt to redefine their industry, by offering a new
class of power supplies with integrated battery back-up features.

According to a new study by TechTrends, the market for these products will grow at more than three times the rate of the
overall power supply market, tripling in size by the end of 2001. Market drivers include the gradual penetration of the desktop
PC market and the increased number of communications applications that require uninterruptible operation. This report, entitled
''Markets and Opportunities for Uninterruptible Switch-Mode Power Supplies,'' is the first and only available source of market
intelligence on this emerging segment of the power supply industry.

During the past three years, the number of companies offering uninterruptible switch-mode power supplies (UPS/SMPS) has
doubled to more than twenty-five vendors. These vendors include makers of switch-mode power supplies and smaller firms
that are dedicated to designing UPS/SMPS products.

Competition in the industry is intensifying, as UPS/SMPS vendors compete with vendors of switch-mode power supplies and
external UPS products. In response to increasing competition, several UPS/SMPS vendors have entered into technology
licensing agreements with vendors of switch-mode power supplies. As a result, many UPS/SMPS vendors rely on technology
licensing as an important source of revenue.

''Although technology licensing currently accounts for a small percentage of industry revenues, many companies expect
licensing to generate significant revenues in the future,'' said Todd Wiener, managing director, TechTrends.

''Markets and Opportunities for Uninterruptible Switch-Mode Power Supplies'' forecasts UPS/SMPS market revenues
through 2001, segmented by vertical market and channels of distribution, and it discusses market drivers and restraints. The
report examines product technology and features, pricing trends and vendor market share. It reveals the most important
UPS/SMPS product and vendor selection criteria of OEMs and systems integrators. This report also explores the competitive
issues facing all power supply vendors and the opportunities presented by technology licensing. Detailed profiles of leading
UPS/SMPS vendors highlight product offerings and revenues, target markets and distribution strategies. Strategies and
recommendations concerning product features, pricing, target markets and distribution provide long-term, strategic insight for
confident decision-making.

Now available for purchase, this report contains information that is critical for any company involved in the power supply
market. Vendors of switch-mode power supplies [ABB, Astec, Artesyn Technologies (NASDAQ:ATSN - news)] will learn
how to benefit from offering uninterruptible features in their existing products. Vendors of external UPS products [APC
(NASDAQ:APCC - news), Exide Electronics] will understand the threat to existing and next generation products, enabling
them to adapt successfully. Power supply buyers, such as OEMs [Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer, Hewlett-Packard
(NYSE:HWP - news), IBM (NYSE:IBM - news), Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - news), Siemens] and systems
integrators, will learn about new vendors and their available technology and products. The financial community will obtain
valuable intelligence on potential clients and investments.

All UPS/SMPS vendors must read this report to identify competitors, recognize market demands and customer needs, evaluate
licensing opportunities and consider TechTrends' recommendations and strategies for market success.

''This report has introduced us to new applications and opportunities in the UPS/SMPS market,'' said Bob Nerz, director of
marketing, Silverline Power Conversion, LLC. ''TechTrends has provided my company with valuable insight that enhances our
ability to make long-term, strategic decisions.''

Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. or Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (the parent) appear to have only a few US patents. Anyone have any info on their Japanese or European patents? Interestingly, I heard a while back that our favorite company might have had some discussions with Matsushita.

absolutelly agree...the more announcement from other productions of Li poly batteries...the better...this means that one concern stated even by LEV...not knowing the industries acceptance of the new technology is obsolete by now...this technology will be standard within a very short time period...and IMHO ..VLNC is going to be the leader in quantity and quality delivery...I was getting myself a little impatient lately...but with the recent developments it seems this technology is the sure winner and we are in the prime company to lead the field...I am more patient now again and added a few thousand more this afternoon at 7 1/2...good luck...and FMK don't let your optimism fade , by Larry and ....well, not even worth mentioning his name....
