I just called ABIT and they suggested unplugging the hard drive and plugging the CDROM into the primary disk cable (where we know both the disk and cable work) to verify the CDROM can be seen on the primary IDE port. If not, the CDROM may be bad.

I tried installing my CDROM in my old computer. It was recognized by the bios in the IWILL AMI bios autodetect without a problem. Then I booted and tried the drive and it worked fine.

I tried installing the 16X Sony CDROM from the old machine in the ABIT..no go, it was not recognized.

I have tried the drive on the secondary IDE channel on a separate cable with all three jumper settings..Master, Slave and Cable select.

I tried the CDROM on the primary channel along with the master/slave harddrive with slave CDROM jumper setting and a cable select jumper setting...no go. Maybe I need one of those Captain Kirk video screens<g>.

I tried removing the AGP video card and replacing it with an old PCI card.. still can not recognize the CDROM in bios autodetect.

I just tried it as master on the Primary IDE without the harddrive (thanks for the suggestion) Unfortunately it still is not recognized.

Keep me posted.

Anyone in non SI land have any ideas??
