Paul, I think it ISN'T SAFE - my guess is that the K6-3 may outperform the K7 since the K7 has off chip, 1/3 CPU speed L2 cache. Are we forgetting the 128K L1 on K7? The L2 latency becomes decreasingly important as the L1 miss rate decreases. Scumbria

K7 has 128k L1 cache on chip--faster than the L2 that K6-3 has on chip. K7 will have FAST off chip L2--running at the same speed (if not multiplier) as the current PII cache SRAMs! And the PII, even thus "handicapped" versus the K6-3, is still pretty close in performance, without the K7's other advantages. Kevin
