I understand the problems with privatizing SSI. The downside of the government putting real assets into the SSI box is then you have injected politics into the private sector - up to 5% of the public companies after 10 years would be owned by the government fund. You can't seriously relish the prospect of every special interest group in the country lobbing those in charge of investing this staggering pool of money. You think campaign financing is a mess. Multiply that by 100.
