Pete,

I don't understand something. Why do you care if you pay 5, 10 or even 15 points too high for something if you want to own it LT? That's because you want to check it every 5 minutes to see how well you did. Wrong. You're trying to time and micromanage a LT investment with a ST perspective. Be a trader, or be a investor. Don't use ST trading rules for investing LT.

If you're a LT player, do your best to get a reasonable price and just buy it. You expect it to be much higher in 1, 2 or 3 years, so sleep well with that.

Peter, I traded CMGI very profitably from 71 (pre-split) to 240. Yesterday I bought a long-term stake at 105. From now, on, I won't touch those shares, whether CMGI goes to 70 or 170.

It's much easier to decide to buy and hold. Buying here or two days from now won't make much difference when CMGI hits 200 or better.

If you like it, just buy it. You will save yourself a lot of anguish and nail-biting.
