35 and already turning Libertarian? That is not supposed to happen until mid 40s. You must be precocious. Or, maybe a private University Grad. Or Both!

How's the saying go? If you're under 30 and conservative, you don't have a heart. If you're over thirty and liberal, you don't have a brain. <G>

We all know that people cannot be trusted to care for themselves, their children and their investments. The "underclasses", in particular, can't be trusted to control their own destiny. We need to take their children away and raise them in a proper environment to make sure they learn the correct way to become part of the middle class.

In other words, socialism sucks.

Regards,
Bill

<OT> Rich, on this issue of entitlements, I think most 20-somethings are turning into libertarians. Thats because they can see the cash outflow and they know they wont see anything in return based on demographics. Another trend for 20 yr olds is towards self employment so this group is paying their entire self employment tax (which is in excess of 12K/yr I think), while at the same time having to obtain health insurance for themselves with high deductibles - most of which have fewer benefits than medicare (medicare has dental for example and $100 deductible apparently - try to get that on your own). Anyway for them the numbers dont add up. Unfortunately they dont have the numbers to go against the AARP on these matters.

>> Investing in high risk securities, such as tech stocks, should be banned. The government manuals should spell out the exact types of investments should be available. No one should be allowed to risk their future with risky investments<<

I am not sure that your proposal to ban tech investments since they are risky makes sense. .
Investments by nature carry some degree of risk What would you prefer, Gillette or Coca-Cola?
I guess you would also believe that Dell, Microsoft, Intel, Cisco and America Online are on the ban list. I think I will take my chances and stick with those investment that you believe should be banned. Let the government give the surplus back to the people and let the people be responsible to invest those dollars where they see fit.
