No, he's reacting to Onsale's announcement Monday that they would be selling new computers at cost, and will be following an advertising model.

Right -

Gee, did he really think that no one in internet land wouldn't try something like this or some other kind of price 'war' that goes on in the real world. In a competetive environment margins are aways squeezed very hard.

I'm not sure what the AMZN longs are worried about, they were selling books below their cost anyway. It's not like AMZN has a lot of intangible wealth in technology or anything.

will, onsale's move was easy to anticipate. investors reward handsomely those who grow revs - to heck w/ earnings. how do you grow revs? ploys like this. the fact is, as many said,. it isn't easy to make money on the net as it favors consumers over business.

selling at cost is a DRASTIC measure b/c earnings are not seen any other way. invest in desperation? amazonians can't get enough...

>reacting to Onsale's announcement Monday...

He had happy feet on CNBC several days ago, so it wasn't just the ONSL announcement.

It's the "razor thin margins" comment that was no surprise to the AMZN bear camp, but apparently "startled" the bulls into a headlong dive for the exits.

Glenn's been saying "no margin" for months.

Toast it is...

>> following an advertising model

Is this something AMZN has already done? It sells both stuff and advertising space. What's so new about it? Onsale is just a clueless loser.

Did you hear TimeWarner is going to buy CD Now? Maybe the second tiers will be better plays at this time. But it's quite difficult to guess who would buy whom. ATHM & XCIT deal just left me completely dumbfound. There is no synergy whatsoever in that deal. It's like a paper company buying a newspaper. And what will stop users after logging into @HOME-EXCITE site from surfing to somewhere else...
