If you truly begrudge me the number - which I have difficulty imagining because that would be mean-spirited - here's a rewrite. I claim the hyphenated number as a single word. The master of the vineyard gazed unblinking into relentless gray drizzle. Before the clouds came, it was one week from being the greatest harvest the chateau had seen since the immortal Twenty-nine - doubtless greater. Now the rotting bunches hung on the waterlogged vines, and the creditors disdained a millennium's heritage.
