Lycos Continues Dramatic Climb in Audience Reach, Now At 46.5 Percent of Web
Audience; In Dead Heat for the #1 Portal Position

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1999--Lycos, Inc.
(NASDAQ:LCOS), the second most visited hub on the Internet and owner
of the largest Web community, today announced the audience reach of
the Lycos Network has grown to 46.5 percent, according to the latest
Media Metrix report. Up 15.4 percent since August (trend period stated
by Media Metrix), the Lycos Network now attracts 26.3 million visitors
monthly and is the fastest-growing Web portal -- now only 1.7 percent
reach points from being the most popular portal on the Internet.
