Ah, but what about downloads? Lets say I am at one of those 500 most traveled sites, and I download something from them (say an application). Presumably, this info would already be stored on the hard drive of my sat receiver (would it? Or would I download it through the phone line?), but how would I transfer it to my pc, so I could run it?

Or, let's say I was doing some research, and I found just the report I needed on my favorite stock (say DISH Network) and it was in the PDF format. Could I read it? If not, could I download and install Acrobat reader? Could I print it? Could I save it to floppy? Could I email it as an attachment to my friends?

In short, it sounds really cool to say that you can surf the net from your satellite at high speeds, but will it really replace a pc (or even interface with one) and allow you to:

- download and install applications?
- view documents requiring plug-ins?
- receive email with attachments?
- save received email attachments to a floppy or zip drive?
- send email with attachments?
- send email including attachments from an external floppy or zip drive?
- save downloaded application files from the receiver's hard drive to a floppy or zip drive?

These are the most common types of pc based internet transactions I can think of. With my PC, I currently perform some or all of these transactions every day. I am not saying that a web-tv enhanced DISH receiver couldn't perform some or all of these transactions, I am just saying that these are the questions to ask.

One last question: if the answer turned out to be none of the above, how would you justify the DISH announcement as worthy of a 20 point jump in the stock price?

Regards,

NOEL

ps. the answer: because the press release had the word "internet" in it. Current market thinking dictates that alone is worth a 150-200% increase in market capitalization (see Biker's Dream, etc.)...
