>>>IBM rumored to be buying out SUNW: do you or anyone else on this message board know anything about this? I've heard it in a couple of very reputable places. e.g. newsletters (one was Option Investor).<<<

I've just been reading OptionInvestor and missed it. Where might I find it there?

Klemaire:

Re: IBM buying Sun

In my humble opinion, there is absolutely no possibility for Sun to go on sale. The idiotic rumors of IBM buying Sun is regretful.

SUNW will drop by about 10-15% from its current levels of $105-$106/shr once the earnings are announced (followed by a 2-1 split). If you are a short term trader and do not like the volatility then you may want to take your profits. On the other hand if you are long term investor (like I am) just sit back, relax and buy as many shares as you can if the stock drops to the low to mid $80's again. A year from now you will have double your money!

Of course as always just my opinion (which has proven to be wrong many times in the past)!

Addi Jamshidi

Yes, actually we've heard that rumor before on this thread. Quite often in fact. There's a particular SI member, "The Rainmaker", who's basically a Microsoft supporter but posts now and then on the SUNW thread, usually on the subject of acquisition rumors. Often his analyses are are amazingly detailed and cogent...makes you wonder how he manages to do such exhaustive research and still keep a "day job", even if that job is investing for his own account.

Here, for example, is a recent post he wrote expressing his views on the likelihood of Sun's acquisition in the near future. It will probably answer most of your questions.
