I had offered this idea months ago as a way to get JAVA which I
believe is one of the important intellectual properties of the 21st
century. IBM would also pick up a Unix based product line that is
superior to their own excepting the SP family which is highly
parallel Risc and is the leader in super computing. JAVA is one of
the cornerstones required to bracket MSFT's monopoly on low-end
operating systems. But virtually every post in reply offered reasons,
many of which were well thought out and very sound, on why this would
be a bad deal for IBM. It was a good dialogue and so far those in
opposition have been very right.
