DirecTV in Talks to Buy Rival Primestar, New York Times Says

New York, Jan. 20 (Bloomberg) - DirecTV, the No. 1 satellite- TV company owned by General Motors Corp.'s Hughes Electronics Corp., is in talks to buy No. 2 Primestar Inc., which is owned by a group of cable companies and the public, the New York Times reported, citing an unidentified person close to the talks. DirecTV would pay $500 million in cash for Primestar's 11 frequencies that could deliver high-power service, and pay for its 2.3 million subscribers only as they are converted from Primestar's medium-power to DirecTV's high-power service. Primestar President Carl Vogel, whose company has been struggling and is expected to run out of cash by April, declined to comment, the paper said.

Primestar's shareholders include Time Warner Inc., Newhouse Broadcasting Corp., Comcast Corp., MediaOne Group Inc., Cox Communications Inc. and TCI Satellite Entertainment Inc.

Jeff,

I already subscribe to Investor.msn.com so I will take "dibs" on that one if there is any interest.

I'm still on night shift... all cash... may not trade until April but am enjoying the recap of the day's events here and on the other threads that I follow.

Pegasus Internet says online ticket sales soared

January 20, 1999 07:01 PM
NEW YORK, Jan 20 (Reuters) - Marketing Services Group Inc. MSGI said Wednesday its Pegasus Internet Inc. subsidiary reported a 200 percent to 600 percent revenue increase by its online ticketing clients during the 1998 holiday season.

Its clients include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Center in New York, Tele-Charge and the San Francisco Symphony.

First-time buyers averaged about 80 percent of all online ticketing customers, the marketing company's Web services unit said in a statement.

Marketing Services was up 1/2 at 4-15/16 early Wednesday afternoon in trading on the Nasdaq.

Chart looks nice too. Zack's has a strong buy rating on this one. Downside risk minimal, except it was mentioned on the Tmex thread :(

Trader Joe,

Is this ethical?. to buy a service intended for personal use and spread it around immediately.. I've seen this done on other threads with Favor's reports and thought the same thing.. Only changing the
words a little to get by copyright laws.

What I think about. If I was the publisher, would I like it?. No
I don't think so.. Maybe somebody could explain the ethics of this
to me better..

Good luck today....Coug

TJ - Services

I'm not sure how helpful this would be as I have not had the best of luck when subscribing to stock pickers' newsletters. And each one has their own style of investing which would have to be taken into account. I do, however, have some managed funds with Furman/Selz cap management in their small cap stocks program. I've been quite happy with their picks over the years. They have made some great position trades like EFII for a 600% gain over 2 years. I would be happy to post them here as they come in. Let me know.
