Ed: Nathan Myhrvold, Micorosoft's technology guru, recently said Windows may be swamped within five years by Linux.

Microsoft is top holding in my portfolio right now but I am keeping a close watch on Linux and the open source movement as I believe they represent the largest long-term threats to Microsoft.

I am just a regular PC user , like most others, and I have never heard of Linux, and what is it ?

Linux is an excellent, free Unix-type operating system available for the PC. If you're not familiar with Unix and don't know much about PC devices you'll probably want to steer clear as you basically have to become a Unix system administrator to run it.
