Mike...Somehow I can't get too excited about the concept of networked appliances in the home. The refrigerator may know I'm low on cheeses, but only if I somehow enter information on it, and it certainly won't know that last week I wanted chedder but this week I'm in the mood for munster. This spreading of embedded computers, especially with the kind of low bandwidth differing OS solutions offered by CTXS seems more likely to penetrate industry first. Dedicated hand held portable dedicated gadgets using cell phones also might find a lot of industrial use. This concept is helped by the fact that operating systems in portable devices are not dominated by MSFT.
I've found more guidance in predicting these kind of futures from science fiction writers than from engineers. "The future ain't what it used to be" <g>
BTW, I think EMC is very close to achieving gorilla status. One of my bigger holdings for the last 6 months.
