My life is filled with humiliating moments. Very occasionally I feel socially adept, you know-say something right, something smooth, remember someone's name, get from one place to another without tripping and it's such a unique feeling. Usually I'm the one who asks about a spouse and the person bursts into tears because they just separated the night before. Then I babble. I am a silencefiller. I HATE that. I can't stop myself either. I think-Shut up! Shut up! ANd my mouth keeps going. And it doesn't have to make sense. It's a sort of disease, I think. I gave it to a character in my book-I call it- laxi labri-loose lips- compulsive small talking. Everyone else seems so composed and in control of themselves. I suspect I'm an alien.
