Yes CPQ will offer a stand alone kit for existing Presarios - someone said that at the time of the home network announcement in response to a question. Intel's product is HW compatible. SW is still a mystery since there are several possibilities.

They use the same technology that CPQ is using, it is licensed from a company called Tut Systems

Good info, John. Makes one want to look at Tut as an investment, but it is private. There is a Tut thread on SI, bo no info there.
