earnings....
* Britain's Financial Times reported that Lycos (LCOS) is seeking a
media or telecommunications company to become a strategic partner.
Rumors have circulated around LCOS for the past few months about this
type of alliance. In the past, and in the Financial Times' article,
the German media company Bertelsmann (BRT.G) has been mentioned as
strong potential candidate.

* UAL Corp (UAL) reported that it is in preliminary talks to acquire
America West Holdings Corp (AWA).

* Ford (F) reported a 4Q operating net of $1.35 versus a net of $1.27
in 4Q 1997. The results beat the First Call consensus estimate of
$1.27. Separately, rumors continue to circulate that Ford is
interested in buying a foreign automotive company, possibly
Volvo (VOLVY).

* Lucent Technologies (LU) reported a 4Q earnings gain of $01.05 versus
earnings of $0.86. Lucent's results exceeded the First Call consensus
forecast for earnings of $1.01.

* Continental Air (CAI'B) reported 4Q earnings of $0.91 versus earnings
of $0.97 in the year-ago period and compared to the First Call
consensus estimate of $0.77.

* Silicon Graphics (SGI) booked a narrower-than-expected FY99 2Q loss
of $0.14 versus a loss of $0.17 in the year-ago period. The First
Call consensus estimate called for a loss of $0.19 per share.

* At Home Network (ATHM) reported an in-line 4Q loss of $0.06 versus
a loss of $0.11 in 4Q 1997.

* Quantum Corp (QNTM) reported pre-charge FY99 3Q earnings of $0.29, up
from a loss of $0.24 in FY98 3Q. The results were above the First Call
consensus estimate of $0.24. Quantum booked one-time charges totaling
$190 million, or $0.91 per share, which brought its quarterly loss to
$0.64 per share.

* Ameritrade (AMTD) posted a FY99 1Q profit of $0.13 per share versus
a loss of $0.39 per share in the year-ago period. The results exceeded
the First Call consensus estimate of $0.09 per share.

* Equifax's (EFX) 4Q earnings of $0.31 per share versus $0.37 were in-
line with the First Call consensus estimate.

* Pulte Corp (PHM) reported 4Q earnings of $0.87 compared to earnings
of $0.69 in the year-ago quarter. The results were $0.05 higher than
the First Call consensus estimate.

* El Paso Energy (EPG) earned $0.49 in its 4Q versus $0.44 for the same
period one year ago. A survey of 15 analysts by First Call estimated
EPG's 4Q earnings at $0.49.

* Go2Net (GNET) reported FY99 1Q earnings of $0.04 versus a loss of
$0.04 in FY98 1Q. The firm also declared a 2-for-1 stock split.

* Xoom.com (XMCM) reported a pre-charge 4Q loss of $0.29 versus a loss
of $0.09 in 4Q 1997. The firm took a $1.5 million charge, or $0.15 per
share, related to the issuance of warrants.
