Jim, This is the stuff I spoke of 2 weeks ago. The software people will love iy. Built in dongles in all machines. I bet some dongle patent holders will be infringed?

If this is seen as a pro-consumer improvement,
AMD and others will have to match it. As far
as overclocking goes, I don't think it would
mean any "speeding tickets", but could help catch
those who are deliberately misleading consumers.

"But with an electronic ID attached to each processor,
consumers will be able to check their processor against
Intel's database of products and find out at what speed the
processor was sold. This still allows hobbyists who want
to overclock their PCs to do so, while cracking down
on the frauds."
