VLSI closed down a bare 1/4 on a down day for all tech stocks on half the average volume. Wall Street is not too thrilled with the earnings of VLSI it seems. Look at SGI - soared today even after reporting a loss. SGI got upgraded today to "accumulate" by Merrill Lynch.

This is what I posted on Jan 21. My estimate of EPS! I have no new data to update the estimate.

Hashem

For the records:
Hashem's estimate for Q4 was $0.01 to $0.03. The actual came at $0.02.

Here is Hashem's estimate for Q1 99.
Assumptions:
1. Two RVNU scenarios: Flat, 5% growth
2. GM: 38.5% for Flat, 39.5% for 5% growth
3. R&D 30.6M (This is good news that VLSI is spending on R&D).
4. M, GSA: $21.9M
5. Interest income: $1M (conservative!)
6. Tax: 27%.
7. Shares: 47.5M

Results: EPS of $0.02 to $0.10.

This analysis is based on the company's public data. If VLSI gives update, I will revise my estimate.

For the records:
Hashem's estimate for Q1 was $0.02 to $0.10. The actual came at $0.05.

Here is Hashem's estimate for Q2 99.
Assumptions:
1. Two RVNU scenarios: 5 and 10% growth
2. GM: 38.5% for 5%, 39% for 10% growth
3. R&D 31.8M (This is good news that VLSI is spending on R&D).
4. M, GSA: $24M
5. Interest income: $1M (realistic!)
6. Tax: 27%.
7. Shares: 50M

Results: EPS of $0.08 to $0.12.

This analysis is based on the company's public data. I know that B to B is 1.2, but I have only considered 5 to 10% growth for Q2. Also, margins is a big problem; I was expecting a GM of 40% and I was very disappointed with 38.5%. If GM improves to 42% (unlikely), the bottom line
can increase by $0.05 to $0.09 and the EPS range will be $0.13 t0 $0.21. If VLSI gives update, I will revise my estimate.
