Thanks much for the info! I think that the critical mass issue is significant, otherwise you end up starting a price war like the foreign car manufacturers targetting the Indian market (excellent for the consumer though). A decent PC still costs about 2 months salary for the upper-middle class (which, to bring things in perspective, is some 200 million strong) so it will take a while for the momentum to build up. What worries me is that brand names hold tremendous power in India (the venerable Ambassador, a direct descendent of the 50's British car Austin still sells well) so being late to the party may cause DELL market share.
