I suppose you would consider me a radical, since I am one of the Reagan Democrats who crossed parties in the 80's, and have published in some conservative magazines. But I am not sure how my assertions reveal sensitivity. They may be wrong, that is a different matter, but even Clinton supporters admit that he has had no major policy initiatives in his time in office, and has mostly held the line against what they would consider Republican excess. Also, I may add, the Republicans have not only controlled Congress through the last four years, but they have also controlled most governorships and state legislatures. At best, one could claim that Clinton deserves some credit for our current prosperity, but only a partisan would give him the lion's share.
As for the ending of the Cold War, it was an achievement in foreign policy second only to WW2.
As for the religious right, most African- Americans are religious, and agree with the Christian Coalition on social issues such as abortion. By the way, it was Roe v. Wade that awoke the sleeping giant of the religious right. Before then, many evangelicals were what they called "separatists", having as little as possible to do with secular affairs such as politics.
