Intresting concept. I don't like the idea of using my numeric pad, because I use them often as numbers. I played around with the feature, and if you use the numbers that are in the row above the letters--say you enter "1" in the "Shortcut key" dialog box, Windows changes the "1" to "ctrl+alt+1", and that is what you need to hit to open the program. It also works on shortcuts to folders, and that is where I think it would be handy for me. Thanks for the tip.

Ordered the laptop yesterday and now I have buyer's remorse because I see I could have gotten MS Office at a decent price if I had ordered a new one instead of a refurbished. The savings buying a refurbished is about $200 on that model. Oh, well, I'm getting better at researching these things--next time I'll get it right.

Thanks to everybody for their suggestions,
wily
