(NewsTraders.com)-- Sales of vitamins and dietary supplements have grown more
than 50% in the U.S., Britain and Italy since 1994, according to a published
report reported by Reuters.

Highlights:
- The increase in health awareness and growing acceptance of taking
supplements have greatly contributed to the rise, Euromonitor said in a study
called "Vitamins and Dietary Supplements: The International Market."
- Japan was the largest market with sales topping $10.7 billion in 1998, more
than 10 times that of any European market.
- Sales in the U.S. reached $6.76 billion last year, driven by strong demand
for herbal dietary supplements that was spurred by extensive media interest.
- Euromonitor predicts that manufacturers will start to introduce more
sophisticated products and target specific groups like pregnant women and
children.
