I'm just a little bit concerned by a FIC (a major OEM motherboard manufacturer) press release from last November.

fic.com.tw

It talks about Super-Socket 7 motherboards using a new VIA southbridge that incorporates Soundblaster-compatible sound. It also mentions compatibility with Intel's Audio/Modem Riser standard and a forthcoming PCTel chip to support modem functionality following that standard. I'm not sure how fully ESST's SuperLink audio + modem technology conforms with the Intel specification.

However, I do think ESST's product offering in this area is diverse an d flexible enough to meet all requirements, except for integration of digital audio into motherboard core logic chipsets. As long this integration stays out of the mainstream, ESST may be able to maintain a leadership position in PCI audio and audio + modem.
