TV / COM : TV / COM introduces Transport Remultiplexer for direct-to-home, CATV and private networks 09/23/97 M2 PRESSWIRE (c) Copyright 1997 M2 Communications, Ltd. All Rights Reserved * Latest addition to TV / COM 's digital compression headend systems specifically designed for PCI architecture. TV / COM International, Inc., a subsidiary of Hyundai Electronics, today introduced the latest addition to its digital compression headend systems, the Transport Remultiplexer (RMUX). The RMUX can receive up to four DVB/MPEG-2 ASI transport streams (T-Links) into two identical transport MPEG-2 outputs, one primary stream and one redundant feed. Specially designed for the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) architecture, the RMUX is the first in a product series to use this PC open systems, modular architecture. The PCI architecture is a robust interconnect mechanism designed specifically to accommodate multiple high performance peripherals for graphics and full motion video. "The RMUX enhances the feature set and performance of TV / COM 's DVB/MPEG-2 digital compression system by allowing satellite uplinks and cable headends to further reduce transponder costs per channel, while gaining flexibility and control of their programming," said Jeff Wallin, president and CEO for TV / COM . " TV / COM 's new RMUX is another example of our commitment to deliver standards- based, open systems with unsurpassed reliability and performance, at the lowest cost." TV / COM 's RMUX provides program clock reference (PCR) restamping, program identification (PID) filtering/remapping and program specific information/service information (PSI/SI) processing to handle regional inputs of MPEG-2 transport streams. The PSI/SI handling is especially valuable for locations where programs on incoming streams may be added or dropped from the final digital transport stream, a common requirement for local program insertion or regional programming at cable headends or satellite uplinks. This can also enable more efficient transponder use, by reducing the transmission of unneeded programs. TV / COM 's satellite modulator product, in conjunction with the RMUX, allows program providers to fully occupy a 54 MHZ transponder. Production quantities of the RMUX are available now with a list price of $23,000.
