Martin - IMO the gigabit ethernet sales (Accelar) are a high margin item which will contribute significantly to the bottom line this quarter.

G'day all again - Martin, thanks for the explanation (re: rumor.) While anything is possible - probability is another thing <g> - this is not the 1st time the media/analysts stuck it to NT. If memory serves, some shorties have tried to roll BAY by openly recommend people to short the stock back in early 97. Or more recently, the erroneous stats in the NYT someone mentioned only a couple of days ago!

I don't know if these people are legit [from an analytical standpoint,] they have committed a honest mistake [so much for "all that is fit to print!"] or they have hidden agenda [for instance, hypothetically, a typical hedger may long a stronger stock and short a weaker stock, thus rendering certain *market neutral* setup. However, if there is a change in fundamentals and the two stocks suddenly change places, the hedger has to find an exit! In this kind of situation, even a momentary drop or bounce will do the job.] Of course, not knowing that woman, it is quite unfair to characterise her one way or another.

Even if it is the case, not a whole lot a company can do except to come out quickly and rigorously to clear up the rumor. Here, I think NT still needs to do some homework. Even though it has nothing to do with the business, responding to the business world will project a strong image. Case in point, more than a year ago, some guy came out to question LU's accounting practice. In a matter of hours, the CFO quickly put out a PR contesting it. That guy probably lost his shirt, if not his job!

best, Bosco
