Mr. Fun -- Isn't there a lot of overlap between Ascend's remote access portfolio and the Livingston product set? I don't know the numbers off the top of my head, but Livingston used to be a major competitor of Ascend's. Maybe the actual $$ aren't that significant. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Also -- do not underestimate the often paralyzing effects of these type of acquisitions -- especially in this fast-moving industry. I'm far from convinced that LU will be able to retain Ascend's talent. I know a fair number of talented people at Ascend, who were all very vested and waiting for this impending deal. Heck, the CEO himself is gone after this goes through. I would imagine the brain drain won't stop at minimum. Culture-wise, I think the challenge is daunting. A friend of mine at Cisco told me that, let's just say, if LU had acquired Cisco, that quite a few people would be gone ... not willing to work for a huge, monolithic Old World style company.

Finally, for all of your number crunching, I really don't think you can make any assumptions on Cisco's success in the telco arena. Remember, Cisco didn't even show up on the radar screen 2-3 years ago. Seems to me that they're making huge strides in a very short amount of time. Wait a couple of year's before drawing conclusions. The mere prospect should compel someone to buy this stock. We agree that both LU and CSCO will be widely successful in this "New World". The market will be too big for only one to dominate. Thanks for the interesting posts. I don't think anyone minds the views. They're mush more interesting than our buddy Jach.

Rather than waste more of my time I will simply point out that you were wrong on your original post. There is more overlap. You now have admitted that yourself. In admitting it you discount much of this overlap. I not only suspect that you're in error, I KNOW you are. But I'm not going to waste more time.

From a solutions perspective Packstar and IP Navigator have HUGE overlap. MX1000 is selling to more than Qualcomm and generates more than $5M. G'me a break. SS7... you're own numbers demonstrate a 40% overlap... DSL - WRONG! Stop spinning a story..... Tell the truth... if you in fact know what that is..
