Steven's Dad,
Most investors pick a dog once in a while.
I think SLB is a quality company in an industry that took a major turn recently with little hope of recovery in the near future.

My advice:
I would have her (and her Dad?) agree on and set GTC stop limit price, which will limit the downside. You could also place a limit order to sell if it turns up. You could also agree if the stock is still stuck in the middle after a certain time, you'll sell it to move on to other stocks.

BTW, I may not be qualified to give advice because I don't tell my wife about my trades because she would never sleep. In fact, she doesn't even know about my 'big account'. Don't tell :)

EMC's 15 DMA is 93. This pullback has been pretty deep, but not extreme. That 84 day last week looks so weird on the chart.
