It is my understanding that the DSMB told Xoma not to discuss deaths and so the company constructed the Dec 31st story assuming that it would coincide with the deaths. Since Dec 31st has come and gone and folks are asking questions, Xoma is now being forthright about the endpoint criteria. Although they can not release the number of deaths necessary to end the trial nor the number of people that have died (I do not believe XOMA knows this piece of info anyway). I am not clear as to why they can discuss this via phone; but can not issue a news release or discuss on their Website. Again, all of this is my interpretation of a conversation with Ellen and I could be incorrect. If you have questions, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE call Ellen (I would hate to be incorrect and someone to make an investment decision based upon these comments).
