Paul..........noble thoughts....noble thoughts......but in reality, Money talks and Bullshit walks......The Canadian Government couldn't find their ass with both hands if they tried. Big money from The US, England, Australia, Asia.....big entrepenurial types from Wall Street, Antwerp, Brussels ......they are the ones who will end up owning the Diamond mines of Canada.......Canadians play Hockey and drink LaBatts, eh........

Interesting post Paul and very true but the story is even weird or sadder then you think.
Canadians make the discoveries but cann't get financing so are forced to deal with the multinational or foreign companies.
Prospectors make discoveries and try to raise capital or develop properties and are lucky if they can make a deal at all.
By and large Canadians ignor their natural resources and then complain when someone else developes them but they are unwilling to invest in or develop them themselves.
Mining has done more to develop the North and the Canadian economy then almost any other industry yet in Canada it is ignored, chastized forgotten.
Sad state of affairs when most Canadains know so little about their country.
regards Walt

paul, you are right about Canada having the largest treasure chest in the world. The total oil reserves in the middle east is estimated at 40 billion barrels.Canada has the largest oil reserves in the world in the Athabasca oil sands. The deposit is estimated at 1.7 trillion, thats right TRILLION barrles. to put that into unoilmans terms ,it is the size of lake Ontario twice over. The cost to extract the oil from the sand has decreased from C26.oo in 1971 to C13.00 in 1998.This cost will drop to C9.00 in the year 2006.Canada will be the lowest cost oil state in the world.Canadians will become the Arabs in the next century. To get a peice of the worlds largest oil deposit buy.AOS.UN on the toronto stock exchange.
