So without my understanding any of the technical details, it would seem that ACTV's patents protect their particular approach to interactivity but don't exclude a competitor from offering what seems to be the same services. (" Viewers watching Wink E-commercials on NBC, ESPN, The Weather Channel and other innovative networks can respond to these interactive commercials to request information or order products via their TV remote control.") This doesn't suggest that the national pie isn't big enough for several strong competitors but that the euphoria about ACTV patents may be a tad overdone.
