"Ron Sege to Leave 3Com Corporation"

Hadn't seen any mention of this news on the 3Com thread. Sege has been leading the entire Enterprise business since Finnochio left. So why leave now, when 3Com professes that they now have the product portfolio in place to make a big dent in the enterprise business?

Ron Sege to Leave 3Com Corporation

Edgar Masri to Become Senior VP, Enterprise Business Unit

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 1999--After nearly ten years with 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS - news), Ron Sege, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Business Unit, has decided to leave the company on February 4 to pursue the next phase of his career. Edgar Masri, currently Senior Vice President of 3Com's Small/Medium Enterprise Business Unit, will become overall leader of the Enterprise Business Unit.

Sege joined 3Com in 1989 to build 3Com's Customer Service Organization and shortly following the acquisition of BICC Data Networks in 1992, was given the responsibility for building the company's industry leading small medium enterprise business and extending its reach globally. He broadened his charter to encompass all enterprise products and solutions in 1997, and among other accomplishments, spearheaded the company's successful entry into ATM and Gigabit Ethernet switching.

''After ten years of working with some of the best and the brightest in the technology world, my decision to leave 3Com was a difficult one,'' said Sege. ''However, I am leaving with pride in the many accomplishments our organization has achieved and utmost confidence that the strong enterprise management team we have in place will take our enterprise business to the next level.''

''Our enterprise business has grown significantly under the leadership of Ron Sege,'' said Eric Benhamou, 3Com's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. ''Additionally, he has played a pivotal role in developing 3Com's strategy and operational excellence toward meeting our pervasive networking vision. Although we understand Ron's desire to move on, we will all miss his leadership and counsel.''

''Looking forward, Edgar Masri is a talented executive with a broad range of product, marketing and general management experience. He is uniquely capable of building on Ron's legacy by expanding both the growth and profitability of 3Com's enterprise business.''

Edgar Masri has led 3Com's Small/Medium Enterprise Business Unit (SME BU) since 1995 and is credited with both establishing and continually increasing 3Com's market leadership and position as the most preferred vendor to small and medium-sized businesses. Prior to this position, he was Vice President of Marketing for SME BU. Masri also created 3Com's Transcend® network management architecture and internetworking strategy, including the development and marketing of stackable routers and switches. He has also held senior positions in 3Com's business development and marketing organizations.

In early February, Sege will begin the next phase of his career, joining Lycos Inc. [Nasdaq:LCOS - news], a leading Web media company and the second most visited hub on the Internet.
