Jay,

I have a cable modem and was a previous dial-up user. My ISP cost approx 39.00 per month (modem provided). I no longer need the extra phone line $11.00 per month and the dial-up service $19.95 per month. An added benefit of the cable being near my computer is the feed to my TV tuner card. Surfing with TV reception can't be beat. Most importantly I can surf at speeds that make the experience very enjoyable minus the frustration of disconnects and find the new service much more reliable (important to a trader). As more people become aware of the true cost and super performance, this will be the choice IMO.

Gotta try cable

Grant

First I think the survey is biased.

Second; the prices will come down for cable-internet access

Third; as the OEMs adopt cable ready computers and all the end-user has to do is to load up your computer and install the software Internet access through the cable will hit the mainstream market. Right now there are only techies and visionaries hooked up.

Fourth; larger applications and increased pressure for interactivity (content personalization) and on-demand entertainment will further spur growth.

Fifth; xDSL needs to be defined from a regulatory prospective = slow down in deployment (see link below)

Sixth; @Home is growing into a mature content provider that can be used on any platform including xDSL services. I heard AT&T now has a 25 million stake in Covad....
