No one owns the "rights" to mp3. It's just a file format...like .jpg or .mpg. The winners in this market will be those who make a living out of buying, selling, delivering, stashing, caching, decoding, or recording mp3 files - when the time comes that folks start selling large volumes of music over the net. Some key companies are GoodNoise, mp3.com, Liquid Audio, Adaptec Software, RealNetworks, and anyone involved in microbilling.
