Ok, makes sense, thanks ... so in 'accurate to within 2% 19 times out of 20' is the '2%' the confidence interval or the '19 times out of 20' .... or both ... sure, it's both, of course - so the more you sample and the more you know, the narrower the confidence interval eh

That's what the 500kg sample is all about as I understand it - they're doing a detailed analysis of the chemistry so they can apply it against future samples - it's not about finding big rocks in the 500kg .... more of a fingerprint type thing.

I guess that would be a definition of a speckie - big confidence interval.
